About Carlton Electric:

Carlton Electric is a leading Denver-based commercial/industrial electrical contractor dedicated to delivering high-quality projects with a field-first mindset. We are in business to provide positive growth and energy to our people, our industry and our community and our core values guide everything we do: Be Safe, Be a Good Person, Do the Right Thing, Strive for Excellence, and Whatever It Takes.

We are seeking a General Superintendent to lead field operations across multiple commercial and industrial electrical projects. This role is responsible for manpower allocation, foreman development, planning discipline, field execution consistency, and escalation of field issues that impact production, safety, quality, and schedule. The General Superintendent works closely with Project Managers and Foremen to keep jobs properly staffed, executable, and aligned with company expectations.

The right fit for this position:

The ideal General Superintendent is a strong field leader who knows how to organize people, stabilize execution, and hold the line on planning, safety, and accountability. This person can see across multiple jobs at once, balance manpower based on priority and risk, and coach Foremen to lead their crews well. The right candidate is practical, steady under pressure, highly credible in the field, and able to work closely with Project Managers without blurring the line between field leadership and contractual/commercial ownership. They communicate clearly, solve problems early, and drive consistency in how work is planned and executed.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the field and uphold Carlton Electric’s culture, purpose, and core values.
  • Lead field operations across multiple projects, ensuring work is staffed, sequenced, and executed safely and effectively.
  • Own crew mix and manpower allocation across projects based on schedule need dates, field conditions, and company priorities.
  • Develop, coach, and hold Foremen accountable for daily execution, planning discipline, reporting, and leadership performance.
  • Drive adoption of the company field planning system, including lookahead planning, weekly work plans, and daily huddles.
  • Update and monitor multi-week lookaheads and constraint logs; assign owners and due dates to remove blockers before work is released.
  • Review the labor board regularly, visit at-risk jobs, and make labor moves needed to protect the portfolio.
  • Remove field constraints that require higher authority, site coordination, or cross-project action.
  • Support Project Managers with field coordination related to schedule risk, labor strategy, constructability, and execution impacts.
  • Reinforce field safety leadership expectations and support stop-work escalation when hazards cannot be controlled at crew level.
  • Escalate unresolved field constraints, leadership issues, and execution risks to the appropriate operations and project leadership before they impact committed work.
  • Promote quality and workmanship consistency across projects and review punch and rework trends with Foremen.
  • Own field dashboards, leadership cadence, labor review rhythm, and ongoing follow-up of escalations and support actions.
  • Participate in kickoff planning, staffing discussions, weekly labor allocation reviews, site walks on at-risk jobs, and monthly field operations reviews.
  • Monitor foreman planning compliance, manpower forecast accuracy, safety walk completion, labor productivity trends, and recurring execution issues across jobs.
  • Build strong working relationships with Project Managers, Foremen, Safety, Warehouse, and Operations leadership to keep field execution aligned and proactive.
  • Perform additional field leadership and operational support duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial or industrial electrical construction, including progressive field leadership responsibility.
  • Proven experience supervising multiple projects, Foremen, and field crews.
  • Strong knowledge of manpower planning, production flow, lookahead planning, and short-horizon work planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead field execution without losing alignment with project schedule and company priorities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coach Foremen, coordinate with Project Managers, and address issues directly and professionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify field risks early, remove constraints, and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Working knowledge of safety expectations, jobsite hazard recognition, and field accountability practices.
  • Ability to read plans, understand project sequencing, and evaluate field readiness for upcoming work.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and leadership skills in fast-paced construction environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard field/project reporting tools.
  • Journeyman electrical license or equivalent field background.
  • Experience leading field operations across multiple concurrent commercial electrical projects.
  • Experience with structured planning systems, labor forecasting, and field performance scorecards.
